Summer School in the Sun

If you're a sun seeker looking for summer school employment, Eurobridge International's summer camp may be just the thing. The camp takes place in Pozo Alcon, next to the Cazorla Sierra within Cazorla National Park in Andalucia's Jaen province. Given that the entire Park is over 600m high, you can enjoy the sun and natural surroundings without the overbearing heat experienced at lower levels.

The camp caters for children aged 7 -14 years with the aim of improving their English language skills through entertaining activities, games and workshops. All activities on the camp, such as theatre, handicrafts and workshops, are taught in English and the focus is on improving their aural/oral abilities. One of the most important activities and, by and large, the children's favourite, is theatre.

During their stay they take part in a theatrical production which they rehearse daily, culminating in a performance for parents at the end of their stay. Others include canoeing; swimming; hiking; nature trails; football; volleyball; and evening camp games. In addition there are workshops on origami; television and the press; t-shirt dying; bracelet making; and fancy dress. There are also excursions to nearby towns and villages. The camp is based in a 4 star mountain hotel with modern amenities and a swimming pool. Accommodation for staff is provided in the hotel.

Eurobridge International is currently looking for co-ordinators and teachers for their camps running from 29 June - 11 July and 14 - 26 July. Candidates should be enthusiastic and hard working and have a real interest in working with children and have at least one year's experience. In exchange, you will be paid a salary in the range of 1000 to 1500 euros plus a performance related bonus of 300 euros and full board accommodation. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is no stranger to industry and commerce, indeed it is the norm for ensuring that institutional goals are met through staff training. This model is now being utilised more and more in the field of education, including ELT.

At its best CPD is a true marriage of negotiated and agreed goals which equally serve the institution's and individual's best professional interests. At its worst, the interests of one of the partnership are not, or are only partially, served. For this reason we are urged to take control of our own CPD. To continue to strive for the 'ideal marriage' as this should enhance and better facilitate our own development. Failing that, we should keep our own goals very much on track towards their ultimate and timely achievement. However, it is one thing to know where you want to go. It is another to know the most efficient way to get there.

42km is named that as such as it is 42km from Mae Sot, is a boarding school and is fairly close to the Burma border. It is not one of our regular schools but they asked for a day's training, so the teacher/trainers went down at the week-end and spent the day with them...
